Writing help seems to be a dime a dozen lately, but it is very good to read all you can on it. I read a lot on social media, and I passed it by because I was never a big fan of social media. I mean, I have a Facebook account, and a Facebook page, I even have a Twitter account that I’m trying to figure out more. Really, I just want to write, but more than that, I want to sell books. Part of it is that I want people to read what I’m writing, and be affected by it in a positive way, but I would be lying if I said I don’t want to make a living off it also.
Now, tons of people have told me about the positive side of social media. It’s supposed to increase your exposure, and in turn (in the long run) increase your sales. This is the way you build an audience, and a following. Now, I am no expert on this stuff, honestly, I’m just getting my feet wet with all of the different avenues to publicize my stuff. A friend of mine told me this morning (I am writing this post ahead of time, so that would be 7/17/13) that I should look into Google+ and StumbleUpon. I really didn’t want to sink any more time than what I already am into social media, because I really want to just write. Now, I’m sure if I were to effectively manage my time, this could all be done rather fast.
I checked out Google+. In fact, I already had an account (find it here) I just never used it. now that he suggested it, and said I could see a sales increase in a month or two if I kept using it (and kept using my blog) I figured it would be worth a shot. I mean, it is a two sided blade, I want people to read my stuff, and I want to make money doing what I love, and in order to do either of those, I need people to know what I’m putting out there, right? Right.
So, just doing this for one day, I have seen a triple increase in page views. Seriously, my biggest day was when I told an author of a review on my blog of one of his books, and he shared the link. That day I had 100 hits. Today, I’m sure I will surpass that. Now, this might not sound like a lot to you, but think that I’m also just getting my feet wet with these avenues.
Now, to all of you writers out there that are just starting out, or just thinking you might start writing, or have been writing and haven’t been doing social media, I beg you start now! It is never too early, and it is never too late. If you start now, slowly, you will gain your following as I’m hoping I will do. If nothing else, you will get people traveling to your blog, and they will see your work. Social media will help your writing get noticed, and that will translate into selling more books. That’s what I’m told by the ones selling all the books at least!
Think I’m pretty awesome? Well thanks! I think you rock! Why don’t you check out my even cooler books on amazon?
