Last week I posted a review for the first book in this series called Wyso. I couldn’t wait to start the next book after I finished the first, and I might have only let a couple minutes go by before I picked up Man’s Best and started devouring it. What did I find? An awesome story that takes place in another world between new characters that are struggling against a new alien.
This book could be read as a stand alone because it has very little that ties it to the first. However, if you’ve read Wyso you will know that there’s so much more binding these books together other than the brief mentions of things outside of the main storyline.
In Man’s Best we meet Dae and Even, dream-trippers that are among the endangered humans population. Why are they so different? Because they are able to go into a dream state whenever they wish. They are also able to bring peaceful dreams to the majority of the population of their enclosed city. The majority is called Afluent, and they can’t dream, so they need the dream-trippers to help them.
This story didn’t waste any time getting to the action. Again I was spellbound by Clara’s writing. She has a way of pulling you into the story and introducing you to characters you feel as though you’ve known your entire life. I think that’s one of the main things I love about her books is that you get a sense for the characters and she does it in such an effortless way.
