I’ve heard a lot about Live Action Role Play, or LARP. My brother in law had wanted to go to some local LARP games (I’m not sure if that’s even what you call it). I was never really that thrilled about the idea, maybe because it seemed like a lot of activity, maybe because I don’t know if I could really get into acting out fantasy characters, I don’t know. I know that I love Dungeons and Dragons, and when I was younger my friend and I would spend hours on the land around his house pretending we were the mage and warrior brothers Raistlin and Caramon Majere from Dragonlance. (FYI I was always Raistlin). We had a staff, a wooden sword, and he had all of these neat locations around his house, like a play house that was built into a hill, and fields out in the middle of nowhere. Of course, there were also times we acted out Monty Python and The Quest for the Holy Grail, but those weren’t as epic as when we were the awesome twins from our favorite fantasy book.
Come to think of it, I guess I was LARPing before I even knew what it was. I think that’s part of what’s so awesome as a kid. Now I feel like I’m too adult to LARP. That makes me sad. I just don’t feel like I’m the type of person that would feel right cosplaying or LARPing, but I think the people that do it are pretty fantastic. It’s just a personal hang up of mine. Maybe I’m too worried what other people will think of me? I’m working on that hahaha.
Anyway, I found a video that’s pretty funny, but I can so imagine this being awesome, if I could just shrug off my “Big Boy Pants” and give in to the fun side of me! Plus, I have to admit that shirtless ninja is pretty freaking awesome. He’s like a spider-monkey!
So, have you ever LARPed? I’d love to hear about your stories! If you have some pictures, feel free to share them!
