As an author, there are a few books that you read and think “damn, why couldn’t I have written that?” Hounded by Kevin Hearne is one of those books for me. Easily a five star rating. This book had me reading every free minute I had. Actually, it had me reading MORE than every free minute. I actually made MORE time to read this book than I would have with other books.
The main character, Atticus O’Sullivan (swoon) is a two thousand year old druid. What isn’t there to love about this guy? He loves the earth, he loves animals, he’s a ginger, and he is absolutely hilarious. I have to say Atticus is my new fictional BF. He’s just amazing. But this story has so much more than a swoon worthy main character. It has an awesome supporting cast, characters you love, characters you hate, and characters you love to hate. Add in witches, werewolves, Irish gods, vampires, demons, and fae and you have one awesome book. I’m so excited to read the second novel.
I think the thing I loved so much about this book was it reminded me of how I felt reading the early books of Anita Blake, how the main character was so real, and how the story seemed effortless and rife with drama and action. This book seriously didn’t slow down from beginning to end, and the main characters humor made it pleasurable to reside inside his head throughout the narrative.
I highly recommend Hounded by Kevin Hearne. Also, Oberon (the dog) has a twitter account, and he is pretty spectacular as well.
