So this was an interesting book, and my first venture into steam punk. It’s about this air jockey named Lily Stargazer, and her adventures in airship racing. Well, that’s how it starts out. We are soon shown the reason why the book is called Chasing the Star Garden when Lily is given a strange kaleidoscope and pulled into an adventure worthy of The Da Vinci Code.
The main thing I love about this book was how real Lily was, and how vivid the world she lived in was as well. To start out she seems the typical steam punk person. She does opium, she drinks absinthe, and she has some sex. She isn’t attached to anyone, and she’s living her life in the fast lane, even when she’s not racing. As we go along we learn about her past, and why she is the way she is.
The adventure started to slow for me at some point around 70-75%, but I stuck with it and I’m glad I did. The story picks right back up and you are thrown back into the world at large. This is a really good book, and I’m looking forward to the sequel.
